Turkey: Asian Europe. Study in turkey

There is one country that successfully combines Eastern traditions and a completely European way of life. This is Turkey. Turkey is inconceivably beautiful, diverse and overflowing with historical and architectural monuments. One of the most famous and prestigious universities – Bilkent – is organized according to the American principle. This is a private paid university, one of the most prestigious in the country. In Turkey, an amazing number of universities, only in Istanbul, twenty, and in Ankara – ten. Therefore, there are more students than anywhere else in Europe.

Turkey is a secular country. In Bilkent, it is forbidden to appear in traditional Muslim clothing. Teachers of Bilkent are Europeans, Americans, Australians, people from other Western countries or Turks who have long lived abroad. The language of instruction is English.

The selection, testing and enrollment of foreign students in Turkish universities is carried out by a specially delegated organization – OSYM. Its full name can be translated as “Center for the selection and enrollment of students.” The number of places in universities for which foreign students will be taken is determined in advance, so the competition during the entrance examinations is rather hot.

It should be noted that OSYM takes care of only those who want to get higher education in Turkey. Graduates of higher educational institutions wishing to complete a postgraduate course should contact the Turkish educational institutions of interest directly.

At the time of submission of documents to OSYM, the applicant must either have already completed the course of study, or study in the last grade of school, the educational level of which corresponds to the level of the Turkish lyceum.

Application and exam fees are $ 100. The entrance exam can be taken not only in Ankara. For the convenience of applicants, OSYM has opened offices in many cities around the world, including Baku, Almaty, Bishkek, Kazan, Simferopol and Tashkent. In order to take the exam in Ankara, our compatriots need to have a valid passport and a Turkish visa (they put it at the entrance to the country). When passing the exam in your country, you must have an identity document with you.

Our compatriots who happened to pass the “Turkish TOEFL” claim that it is lighter than its American counterpart. The explanations for the test are written both in Turkish and in English. The Turkish equivalent of TOEFL is designed to determine the level of understanding of a written Turkish applicant. The sole purpose of the TLPT test is to determine if a student is ready to start studying right away if classes are taught in Turkish.

Some Turkish universities offer all programs in foreign languages, others – only a part. As a rule, in public universities of Turkey, teaching is conducted mainly in Turkish, English is more common in private educational institutions.

If a student starts studying in Turkish and in the process of studying it turns out that his knowledge of the language is not at the appropriate level, he is given a year to solve this problem. Then he continues the usual training.

Studying in Turkey is a less expensive pleasure than obtaining an American diploma. Depending on the program, tuition fees range from $ 650 to $ 1,400 at state universities and from $ 5,000 to $ 12,000 at private universities. Students’ monthly expenses are $ 400-500.

Most likely, the popularity of Turkish education will grow. This is due to the fact that a large number of our compatriots work in Turkish firms operating both in our country and in Turkey itself. Despite the benevolent and respectful attitude of Turks towards foreign employees, those who know Turkish language, Turkish culture and traditions are more likely to be promoted. Therefore, Turkish education is an excellent prerequisite for a successful career in a prestigious Turkish company. In addition, our citizens, who studied in Turkish universities, can find themselves in public service (for example, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), in teaching, can work as translators, cooperate in joint companies.
