Excursions in Turkey. Excursions in Side
So, let’s talk about excursions in Turkey and especially excursions from Side. There are a lot of questions: how to choose excursions, what excursions to order, how not to make the wrong choice of excursions. Well, we answer in order. Even the most backward tourist knows that Turkey is not only loungers by the pool and all-inclusive meals, but also a very interesting cultural and entertainment excursion program. For tour operators from whom you buy flights and accommodation, selling excursions around the country is by no means the last source of income, and local excursion bureaus are a whole industry. But from whom and at what stage is it better to book and buy excursions? What is the cost of the tour? These were questions that you can hardly find the answers on the Internet, so we want to share the experience gained during a trip to Turkey in late 2005.
Excursions in Turkey: before you pack your bags
If you don’t like to spend hours in the sun or take a dip in the pool, perhaps the planned excursion program can be decisive not only when setting the budget for the trip, but also when choosing a resort. Turkey is a rather large country and many famous sights that are the purpose of excursions are far from the southern coast, so even a hundred kilometers between various resorts can play a decisive role. If the duration of a bus crossing in one direction passes in 5-6 hours, then only two-day tours are offered to this place, which for many is tantamount to refusing to visit this attraction and, accordingly, refusing the excursion.
On the Internet you can find good descriptions and photographs of all the sights worth visiting during a particular tour. Prices and duration of excursions for those of them that were offered in Side are given below. Try to determine in advance which sights and excursions you would like to visit and choose a resort located as close as possible to them.
Excursions in Turkey: from whom to buy these excursions
Initially, you may think that you will be able to provide all the necessary information in the office of the travel agency from which you plan to buy the tour. In reality, it turns out that managers do not know anything about excursions, and do not even have a price list for these excursions.
Excursions in Turkey: types of guides
The transfer guide is an employee of the tour operator (host) who accompanies you on the way from the airport to the hotel and back. Sometimes his image is quickly erased from the memory of a tourist. Is this happening or because of your overcrowding with other emotions (“Wow!”, “Isn’t my hotel behind this?”, “And this one with a golden chain, I suppose, comes out in Rixos …”, etc.) or due to the fact that the guide, like you, sleepily sat all the way in his seat next to the driver.
Hotel guide – a representative of the tour operator (host) in several hotels located in the same area. His task is to protect your interests when you want something from a hotel or a hotel wants something from you, its place is not far from reception. In fact, in most cases, he is simply trying to calm you down or to put the question on the brakes. This kind of guides also “vparivaet” excursions offered by the host tour operator.
Sightseeing guide – representative of the company from which you bought a sightseeing tour. He must correctly direct your attention to one or another point of the passing space, to replenish your knowledge of history, geography and other school subjects. In the worst case, “vparivaet” your shopping, does not allow you to sleep with your stupid jokes, which tells only the microphone to the whole salon, not to the driver’s ear, and also obstructs the view of the most interesting sights if you sit in front of the cabin.
Excursions in Turkey: where to buy these excursions
In Turkey, it was just the opposite. The first information about the excursion minibuses came to us from the “transfer guide” who accompanied us from the airport to the hotel. During the trip, we were briefly described what options were offered and recommended to buy at least a couple. But the real pressure, sometimes turning into a frank “fit”, we felt during our meetings with the “hotel guide.” They have a percentage of the sale of sightseeing tours. During the first meeting, we listened to everything about the routes, prices, saw a lot of photos. Immediately we were told again about all the routes, prices and showed the same photos. There was even an attempt to enter the third round, but here the patient Ukrainian nature could not stand it and we hurried to retire. Well, I do not like when I “vparivayut”.
The second place of purchase is a tour desk. In the area of our hotel there were as many as 5 of them, and, thanks to the temperament of the Turks, you will not miss any of them. At the tour desk, prices are $ 5-15 lower than that of a tour operator, so the first round – one-day in Pumukkale (Pamukkale) – we bought there. We learned about the shortcomings on the way.
